ARCHITECT magazine's own Paul Makovsky, Editor in Chief, will be moderating an innovative panel of Texas-based architects examining "How Lone Star Architecture Is Setting Directions in Design”.

Texas is enjoying the largest state population growth in the country, with a tandem boom in construction and renovation turning attention to the Lone Star State. ARCHITECT Editor-in-Chief Paul Makovsky moderates a panel of three industry leaders from firms representing major Texas cities about the latest projects and untapped property opportunities across the state. Themes range from architecture and design at all scales, from adaptive reuse in a downtown high-rise that radically activated a city block; to hospitality projects creating placemaking in small towns by drawing upon local vernacular and history; as well as how lighting can enhance projects. Learn how urban planning, innovative interiors and design process are transforming Texas architecture into a unique model for the rest of the country.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
  • Learning about the latest developments in architecture and untapped property opportunities in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex from local AIA chapter leadership.
  • Understanding adaptive reuse and transformative reactivation of downtown areas through a case study of the Indeed Tower in Austin, a high-rise incorporating an existing former post office building.
  • Using a series of small, budget-friendly hotels in small towns to illustrate opportunities for placemaking via engaging hospitality environments that play off of local themes.
  • Applying examples of today’s Texas architecture to the broader context of trends in architecture throughout the rest of the United States.
